Seymour Guado
A half-Guado Maester who sought to end suffering by extinguishing all life.
Seymour Guado is a major antagonist and temporarily playable character in the 2001 role-playing video game Final Fantasy X. A 28-year-old mage and priest of Yevon, he holds the dual heritage of being half-human and half-Guado, the result of his father Jyscal Guado marrying a human woman to improve inter-racial relations. Despite this diplomatic origin, Seymour faced prejudice from both races. He serves as the Minister of Temple Affairs, overseeing summoners, while secretly plotting to use his stature to manipulate Yuna into aiding his goal of becoming Sin. His nihilistic worldview drives him to believe that ending all life in Spira is the only way to stop suffering.

Lore & Background
Seymour's childhood was marked by exile to the remote island of Baaj, ordered by his father Jyscal. During this isolation, his human mother sacrificed herself in Zanarkand to become the aeon Anima, intending for him to use her power against Sin. Instead, Seymour spent his youth forming twisted views on life and death, concluding that peace can only be attained through death. Prior to the game's events, he murdered Jyscal to inherit his position as a Maester of Yevon. He attempts to court Yuna not out of affection, but to become her final aeon. When this fails, he enacts his plan by force, attempting to kill the party and later marrying Yuna in a staged ceremony at Bevelle. There, he kills Maester Kinoc, absorbs his spirit, and shapeshifts into a monstrous form to pursue his goal of becoming Sin.
In Their Own Story
The protagonists first meet Seymour before a blitzball match where he is introduced as Yevon's newest maester. He stages a monster attack to eliminate them using Anima in a show of strength. After the party learns of Jyscal's murder, Seymour attempts to kill them but dies in battle, returning as an unsent spirit. At Bevelle, Yuna and her friends are forced into a wedding with Seymour under threat of execution. During the trial where Yuna is sentenced to death, Seymour kills Kinoc and reveals his plan to become Sin. He transforms again at Mt. Gagazet after killing numerous Ronso tribe members. Finally, inside Sin, his spirit attempts to control the monster from within for one last battle before Yuna sends him to the afterlife.
Reader's Guide
Seymour acts as a recurring obstacle with escalating difficulty across four distinct battles in Final Fantasy X. The first encounter occurs shortly after the blitzball match where he uses Anima. Subsequent fights happen at Bevelle following his transformation into an unsent, and again at Mt. Gagazet where he utilizes Ronso spirits for another form change. The final battle takes place inside Sin, where he attempts to control the entity. In Final Fantasy X-2 International edition, players can battle him in side content and recruit him as a playable character. He also appears as a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia (2017), Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: All-Star Carnival, and Theatrhythm Final Bar Line.
