The backstory of Final Fantasy V reveals that one millennium prior, a mage named Enuo used an entity called the 'Void' to imperil the world. The people split the four elemental Crystals into two sets, creating two worlds and sealing the Void in a dimensional cleft. Malicious demons sealed inside the Great Forest of Moore eventually merged to form Exdeath. Thirty years before the game's events, Galuf, along with Dorgann Klauser, Kelger Vlondett, and Xezat Matias Surgate—the Four Warriors of Dawn—sealed Exdeath within the first world using its Crystals. Nearly a thousand years passed until Exdeath resurfaced, prompting Bartz to investigate the fallen meteor where he met Galuf.

In Their Own Story

Bartz Klauser witnesses a meteor plunge and meets Lenna, an amnesiac Galuf, and pirate captain Faris Scherwiz. They travel to the Wind Shrine, where shattered crystal shards grant them powers as chosen protectors. The party attempts to save the Water, Fire, and Earth crystals but fails each time, only for Exdeath to defeat them and return to his homeworld. King Tycoon sacrifices himself while controlled by Exdeath. Later, Galuf's granddaughter Krile arrives via meteorite on Bartz's world, fully restoring Galuf's memory. He recalls originating from the same world as Exdeath and resolves to pursue him back home with Krile, joined by Bartz, Lenna, and Faris.

Reader's Guide
