Lore & Background

Yuna hails from Spira as the daughter of the late High Summoner Braska, who destroyed Sin ten years prior. She begins her quest with Guardians Lulu and Wakka to acquire Aeons from temples across the world. Her goal is to summon the Final Aeon in a battle that sacrifices both her and the summoner to destroy Sin. During this pilgrimage, she falls in love with Tidus after they discuss their pasts and their home of Zanarkand. Upon reaching the final temple, Tidus persuades the group to find another way, leading them inside Sin's body where he kills Braska's Aeon—his father Jecht. Sin is destroyed by the death of Yu Yevon, bringing an eternal Calm, but Tidus disappears as a product of the Fayth. In the international version, Yuna finds a blurry video of a man she believes to be Tidus and sets out to find him.

In Their Own Story

Set two years after Final Fantasy X, Yuna joins the sphere-hunting group Gullwings alongside her cousin Rikku and Paine. The trio explores a newfound tower after reuniting in the international version where they initially separate. Yuna searches for a sphere containing a video of a man resembling Tidus in prison, only to discover it is actually Shuyin, a spirit seeking revenge for his lover Lenne's death. Yuna possesses a sphere from Lenne that allows her to replicate her singing and helps the Gullwings defeat Shuyin. Depending on player progress, the Fayth may revive Tidus for a reunion. The HD Remastered version adds an audio drama where Yuna joins the Yevoners on Besaid, breaks up with Tidus after declaring love for someone else, and vows to fight revived Sin again.

Reader's Guide

In Final Fantasy X, Yuna controls creatures known as Aeons using spirits called Fayths. She travels with Guardians including Lulu, Wakka, Auron, Kimahri, and Rikku to defeat Sin. The story involves visiting temples, acquiring Aeons, and ultimately rejecting the cycle of sacrifice. In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy (2011), she appears in her FFX form arranged for the game's cast, retaining memories from X while trying to recruit Tidus. She is killed by mannekins alongside other Cosmos soldiers but has an alternative design based on Yoshitaka Amano's illustration and a wedding dress from FFX. Her X-2 form was released as downloadable content. Outside the series, she appears in Kingdom Hearts II as a pixie who switches sides after being abandoned by Maleficent.
