When Dalamud finally descended upon the land, it shattered, releasing Bahamut in his true, terrifying form. The dragon, driven mad by millennia of imprisonment and manipulated by Ascian hands, unleashed a torrent of fire that scorched the skies and razed cities. This event, known as the Calamity, wiped out a significant portion of the population and dissolved the Grand Companies' ability to maintain order. It was only through the sacrifice of Louisoix Leveilleur—whose physical form was lost in the ritual—and the intervention of the Warrior of Light that Bahamut was finally defeated, leaving Eorzea to pick up the pieces in a new, darker age.

The sky turned a bruised purple as the great eye of Dalamud descended, no longer a distant orb but a crushing weight against the horizon. Thunder rumbled not from clouds, but from the cracking shell of the moon itself. In the midst of the chaos, a figure clad in robes stood atop a crumbling spire, raising a staff that glowed with desperate light. Below, the roar of a dragon shook the very foundations of the earth, and fire began to rain like tears from a weeping god. The world held its breath, waiting for the final blow that would end an era.

Reader's Guide

Following the immediate destruction, the story shifts to the aftermath, known as the Sixth Umbral Era. This period involves re-establishing alliances, investigating the lingering threats of primal summoners, and uncovering the deeper machinations of the Ascians who manipulated events from the shadows. The arc concludes with the restoration of hope and the formation of a new resistance against future calamities.
